Our Beginnings
My name is Rafiki Gilbert, and I’m the director of Children’s Welfare Initiative Ministry.
I started the Ministry in 2004 when I was working with King's Kid's Ministry here in YWAM-Rwanda (Youth With A Mission).
God gave me a burden to help the children in the community who are in need.
The Lord gave me a verse, Proverbs 22:6 (Train up a child in the way he should go:
and when he is old, he will not depart from it). The verse tells us to show children the true way,
and they will continue to follow the right path as they grow.
So I started the ministry with an understanding of the importance of investing in the children
and disciplining people while they are young.
Currently we have 100 children in our program; out of those we are supporting 40 for school fees,
and we hope to have more as we can.
I really give thanks to the Lord who gives me people to work with;
Amiss and I are volunteers in the Children's Ministry,
we help them because God has called us to serve Him that way.
It was not easy for me to serve those children alone, but when I started to work with Amiss,
I saw how God has sent him to help me in different ways, especially in counseling.
