DANIEL’S CLASSICAL SCHOOLS

History

Daniel’s Classic Schools Complex international begun in the year 2002 at Adjei Kojo when one of our sponsors, Mr. Bob Milikin donated the garage of a rented out 10 bedroom house. When the owner of the house died, his family members disputed over the management of the house so we had to move the school to a different location. At that time the membership strength was 100 pupils. Prior to this expansion, for 2 years, the pupil strength was 15, then we incorporated the charity aspect and started giving full study scholarship to children from less privileged homes. Because we were in dire circumstances, Mr. Milikin introduced us to Mr. Kieth Butterfield who came to purchase the land at Suncity, Adjei kojo, where the school is currently located. The school realized the sacrifice the owner of the land had to make by selling her land to us, and being a single parent of two children, the founder of the school, Apostle Elizabeth Ahadzi, started supporting her. This continued for one year.

The Baatsonaa Branch

This branch begun in 2006 on a previously purchased land belonging to the founder and her deceased ex- husband. Prior to the school commencing, the founder with the help of her mother put up a one bedroom house on the land. Then Mr. Milikin introduced Mr. Gareth of Castro who came in to support with the feeding of the street children and the building of the boys quarters which was used to house the first school children. Ms. Alison from Canada was also instrumental in the roofing of the first building.

Current status

Both Adjei Kojo and Baatsona schools have student population of 214 and 150 respectively. The teaching staff number remains at 14 and 12 respectively. The non-teaching staff in both schools stands at 10. We currently have partnership with Low-furness School Church of England Primary School, Cumbria- UK who support with educational materials and money. Members of the Rotary club foundation, Lake district, Cumbria also channel their support through Mr. Kieth Butterfield. St. Piou School, Cumbria, UK also send books and clothing once a year for the underprivileged children at both school branches. In 2013, through partnership with the International Centre for Enterprise and Sustainable Development NGO and Misters Tomas Brabenec and Daniel of Stredisko Ekologicke Vychovy a etiky Rychory in Czech republic with funding from the European Union, the founder of the school and 3 of the school children went on a 12 day educational trip to the Czech republic.

Future plans

In the short term, with aid from new sponsors, we hope to complete the unfinished school building projects at both sites. In the future, we intend to expand to other deprived communities in the Greater- Accra region of Ghana. We will specifically build school blocs and recreational centers to provide formal schooling and means of livelihood for the children and unemployed youth in those communities.
