Kochola junior academy and ophanage home is located in Homabay
County in Kenya. The school at
the moment has reached class five (Grade 5) with a total population
of 230 pupils . The Kochola
community has in the past lagged behind in terms of access to
quality education since there is
high poverty level in the area which makes it impossible for
parents to take their children to
better schools which are also far away from the area.
It is for this reason that through the Director Kochola junior
academy and ophanage home, was
established to counter this and to offer affordable and easily
accessed quality education which
will meet the needs of the time within this region (community).
The institution is a model centre of excellence in the region,
reaching out to the vulnerable and
often neglected in society. The institution’s main focus targets
the orphans (total and
partial), needy children from poor background, vulnerable girls
and boys, youths and widows.
The vision, mission, goals and leadership structure of the
institution is strategic in
mitigating the challenges affecting the society alongside making
disciples of Jesus Christ to
transform the world. The institution is unique in impacting the
rural African community stricken
with diverse poverty levels, high rate of HIV/AIDs pandemic,
deaths, diseases and illiteracy.
The increased HIV/AIDs pandemic has had devastating effects on
education sector, which is losing
many qualified human resources. Many teachers are also either
infected or affected by HIV/AIDs;
thus they are not able to be efficient and effective in their
work. Many children have been
affected by the disease because of loss of their parents. Such
orphans’ participation in school
becomes irregular and ineffective; they often end up dropping out
of school.
The Institution is located in an area that is predominantly
occupied by large number of orphaned
children caused by deaths as a result of HIV/AIDs. The community is
perishing in extreme poverty
levels and cannot afford an inclusive, relevant and quality education
and training which
contributes to economic empowerment and raising living standards of
a community.
