Criteria for the Award of Scholarship

Less privileged child: a child who is economically and socially disadvantaged and deprived of a decent standard of living, adequate education, and economic security through poverty & discrimination.

A vulnerable child: a child who, because of circumstances of birth or immediate environment, is prone to abuse or deprivation of basic needs, care and protection and thus disadvantaged relative to his/her peers.

Orphan: an orphan is a child under age 18 years who has lost one or both parents.

Less Privileged/Orphans & Vulnerable Children will be defined as any of the under listed:

street children
child labourers
children with special needs
children in remote areas from indigenous minorities
children under 18 years exposed to conditions that do not permit fulfilment of fundamental rights for their harmonious development
children living in households headed by children
children living in orphanages
children with disabilities
children who are sexually exploited and/or abused
working children
children affected/infected by HIV/AIDS
infants with their mothers in prison
children in very vulnerable households
refugee and displaced children
children of single mothers children who are married before the age of maturity
children with a terminally ill parent or guardian
children born of a teenage mother
children living with a parent or an adult who lacks income-generating opportunities
child abused or ill-treated by a step-parent or relatives
a child, under the age of 15 who has lost his/her mother (or primary caregiver)
